Farmcrowdy V2 — Building Trust at Scale
Second iteration of the Farmcrowdy platform — solving the retention problem after V1 proved acquisition. Sponsors weren't coming back after investing.
The Problem
Farmcrowdy V1 successfully acquired users. But retention was a problem. After sponsoring a farm, users disappeared for 3-6 months until harvest. Many forgot about their sponsorship entirely. Return sponsorship rates were low.
The Trust Erosion Problem
Out of sight, out of mind. Without regular touchpoints, sponsors' confidence in the platform eroded. "Is my farm actually real?" "Did something go wrong?" "Should I have sponsored?"
Design Response
1. Farm Dashboard: From Static to Dynamic
Redesigned the sponsor dashboard to show farm progress in real-time:
- Timeline visualization showing farming stages (planting → growing → harvest)
- Photo updates from field agents showing actual farm progress
- Weather data and farming milestones
- Expected harvest countdown timer
2. Update System: Designing for Truth
The challenge: How do you share bad news (crop delays, pest issues) without eroding trust? Solution: Transparent communication framework. Share problems with solutions. "Heavy rains delayed planting by 2 weeks. Here's the new timeline and our mitigation plan." Honesty builds more trust than artificial positivity.
3. Referral Program: Growth Meets Trust
Designed referral system that leveraged existing sponsors' trust:
- Share your farm progress with friends
- Earn bonus returns for successful referrals
- "Your friend is sponsoring Farm X, join them!" — social proof
